Former Polycom Executive Elevated to Top Post as Leading Enterprise YouTube is Poised for Rapid Growth
LOS ANGELES, CA – June 7, 2016 – MediaPlatform, Inc. (www.mediaplatform.com), the leading live streaming and video on-demand platform for the enterprise, today announced that Mike Newman is succeeding Jim McGovern as CEO, effective immediately. This transition is the final phase of a succession plan that was put in place when Mr. Newman joined the company in the summer of 2015.
“After Polycom, I had an opportunity to really study the industry with an eye towards where I thought it was going and which companies I thought were best positioned for that future,” said Mike Newman. “I knew MediaPlatform as a leader in the space, but it was only after several months of studying the company that I started to truly understand the exceptional quality of their products and team. Since joining MediaPlatform nearly a year ago, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting the chance to work with Jim, and it is an honor having the backing of the board, Jim, and my colleagues as we look to build from the great foundation Jim put into place.”
Prior to MediaPlatform, Mike Newman was VP/GM at Polycom (NASDAQ: PLCM), where he oversaw Polycom’s worldwide video content management and streaming business. Before Polycom, Mike was CEO and co-founder of Accordent Technologies, Inc. a high growth video content management company with operations in 13 countries. For nearly ten years, Mike was responsible for shaping Accordent’s strategic vision, running internal operations, and contributing to sales and business development. Accordent Technologies was acquired by Polycom in 2011 for $50 million with San Diego-based growth equity firm TVC Capital as its lone institutional investor.
“When Jim McGovern took over MediaPlatform in 2010, the company was viewed as a niche product focused exclusively on helping organizations stream CEO town halls and all-hands,” said Jeb Spencer, Chairman of the Board, MediaPlatform and Managing Partner, TVC Capital. “Six years later the company is now at the forefront of providing a single platform for live and on-demand streaming inside the enterprise and has been recognized as a Challenger and Leader in the enterprise video content management sector by Gartner and Forrester, respectively. With Mike as our new CEO, MediaPlatform will continue to be the top choice for enterprises that wish to leverage a comprehensive video solution for corporate communications, training and collaboration that bridges the gap between web conferencing and videoconferencing.”
